Work and projects
One problem, approached from many sides.
How can technology help people transact, identify themselves, form relationships, and use applications without becoming dependent on a new institutional silo every time? Each project below is part of my attempt to answer that.
Current work
Company · 2020–presentProject Babbage
I founded Project Babbage to make identity, permissions, payments, data, and applications work around the user. Today our team builds wallet infrastructure, overlay services, developer tools, education, and real applications around that architecture.
Open interface · ongoingBRC-100
With Tone Engel and Brayden Langley, I coauthored the unified, vendor-neutral, open wallet-to-application interface. It gives applications one consistent way to request user-authorized payments, signatures, encryption, certificates, tokens, and wallet data.
Revived · 2025–presentGateway
Gateway began in 2018 as a Bitcoin Cash merchant-payment project. I revived the same basic idea for the BRC-100 ecosystem: simple payment buttons and internet payment infrastructure built around user-controlled wallets and BSV.
Protocol and infrastructure work
BRC-8Everett-style Transaction Envelopes
A recursive structure for carrying a transaction with the ancestry and proof material needed for SPV evaluation.
BRC-42Key Derivation
Relationship-specific cryptographic keys for private payments, signatures, encryption, and extensible protocols.
BRC-29Authenticated Payments
A person-to-person payment approach combining derived keys, transaction data, and recipient authentication.
BRC-100Wallet-to-Application Interface
A stable application boundary for wallet permissions, actions, identity, encryption, certificates, baskets, and payments.
OverlaysApplication-specific services
Federated services that discover and track the Bitcoin outputs relevant to a particular application or protocol.
Bitcoin CPUStateful computation research
An experimental architecture using chained transactions and scripts to represent evolving computational state.
Earlier work and honest lessons
Rubix
CTO · March 2019–January 2020Led a technical team of roughly four to five people building non-custodial mobile and desktop wallets for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, and BSV. Together, we built ambitious software, and I remain grateful for the team and what the experience taught me about leadership and complex delivery.
Gateway v1
Founder · mid 2018–mid 2019Built an open-source Bitcoin Cash payment processor with merchant accounts, buttons, notifications, callbacks, and direct payment to merchant-controlled addresses.
Unite.cash
Late 2017–summer 2018Explored a censorship-resistant social and content marketplace using Bitcoin Cash and IPFS.
Element Communications
2016–2018My North Medford High School senior project: a private social-network prototype using ring signatures, public-key cryptography, and encrypted communication.
Early games
2014–2016FlatForm, FireWars, and ADIKSHIN were imperfect, runnable proof that I could turn an idea into software.
